| The 2009 KVCC Awards Gala:
The Kennebecasis Valley Chamber of Commerce asked the public as well as its Members to help us identify those businesses and entrepreneurs in the Kennebecasis Valley area whose efforts and achievements merited consideration for the 2009 KVCC Business Achievement Awards. Winners were honoured at the KVCC Awards Gala on Wednesday, October 21st/09 in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Small Business Week. The Gala’s theme was Your Dream, Your Business, Your Passion
Awards:
¶ Community Impact Award: Recognizes the accomplishments of those organizations in the not-for-profit sector which contribute to the social and cultural well-being of the Valley. These nominees do not have to be members of the KV Chamber of Commerce.
Winner: The KV Old Boys
Finalists: The Joshua Group and The Kingsway Care Center
¶ Young Entrepreneur Award: Recognizes a young entrepreneur (under 30) who has successfully launched a new business in the Valley which has proven to be a productive and viable company.
Winner: HomeStar Inc. – Mark Hatfield
Finalist: Susan C. Jackson & Associates – Sue Jackson
¶ Emerging Business of the Year Award: Recognizes a business/entrepreneur who has demonstrated business growth, employment growth, achieved significant accomplishment or milestone, offering a unique and new product or service in the Valley – cannot have been in business more than 3 years.
Winner: The Window Shop – Dave Long
Finalists: The Girls Bra Shop and Pomodori Pizzeria
Other Nominees: Strong & Free; Gateway Retirement & Estate Planners; Select Stone; King Pie; and Diverse Medical Collectors.
¶ Business of the Year/Excellence in Business Award: Recognizes a business/entrepreneur who has demonstrated business growth, employment growth, achieved significant accomplishment or milestone, offering a unique and new product or service in the Valley.
Winner: Brands Beyond/Merle Norman – Donna Williamson
Finalists: The Grape D’Vine and B/A Realty
Other Nominees: RBC Royal Bank; BMO Bank of Montreal; Exit Realty; Subway Restaurant
¶ Business "Citizen" of the Year Donnie Gass, Sobey's and 25 Years of Service to the Community Kennebecasis Public Library were two Special Awards of the evening.
