Council Profiles


Phil Brodersen, President

Phil has been married 28 years and has three children.   He is Saint John born and raised but has lived in Rothesay for the past 25 years.  Phil used to own Atlantic Signs but now has four and soon five commercial properties in the Heart of Rothesay.  There is rental space available at present.  Phil attends the Kings Valley Wesleyan Church in Quispamsis.  He enjoys salmon fishing and sports. 


Edgar Young, Vice President

Edgar enjoys his job as Sales Manager for Fundy Mutual Insurance at his office, located in Rothesay. He lives in
Saint John with his wife Barbara.   Edgar has been a member of KVCC for the past four (4) years and has been Secretary/Treasurer for the past three (3) years.    After a career in the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy), he settled in Saint John as the owner-operator of Quick Lube. After 12 years with this business, he was engaged in Real Estate until assuming his position with Fundy Mutual four (4) years ago.   He also sits on a Board for the Saint John Mortgage Industry Associations. Edgar is also a member of the Kiwanis, Hammond River Angling Association and Saint John Real Estate Board.  He enjoys his camp at South Oromocto Lake, canoeing, biking and fishing.



Scott Cochrane, Secretary Treasurer

Scott has lived in the Kennebecasis Valley for the past 35 years with his wife Sue and family.  He has been on Rothesay Town Council for 15 years, currently on the Planning Advisory Committee, Public Works and Infrastructure Committee, and is Chairman of the Finance Committee.  Scott is a self-employed Accountant in the KV area doing accounting, bookkeeping and taxation services.  He is an occasional golfer and enjoys playing cards with the family.


 Rick Demone, Past-President

 

Rick has been a resident of Quispamsis for over 20 years.  He has been married to Bonnie for 30 years and they have one son, Brad.  Rick is the owner of KV Family Shell in Rothesay and also Market News in Market Square, Saint John.  Presently, he is the President of the Joshua Group (helping At-Risk children) and also is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Cherry Brook Zoo.  Rick is an active member of the valley community and a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church.


Cindy MacFarland, Councilor

Cindy has been married for 28 years and has 2 children.  Cindy has lived on the Kingston Peninsula for the past 28 years and previous to moving to the Peninsula lived in Quispamsis and Saint John.  Cindy is a Mortgage Specialist with Home Loans Canada and has been in the financial industry for over 27 years.  Cindy enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and reading.  Cindy has been a director with the Chamber for the past 2 years.


 Gerry Maher, Councilor

Gerry Maher is an investment advisor with RBC Dominion Securities and a Councilor for the Town of Quispamsis.  He has nearly 30 years experience in investments and insurance and serves on the boards of the Community Autism Centre and the KV Chamber of Commerce and Kennebecasis Public Library.  Mr. Maher moved to the Kennebecasis Valley from Saint John in 1994.  He is Treasurer for the Corps of Commissionaires for New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.  Mr. Maher has degrees in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Western Ontario.  Mr. Maher has three children, one still at home with him in Quispamsis. 


Gay Drescher, Councilor

Gay Drescher has lived with her family in Rothesay since 2001 and has been a regular visitor to the community since 1983.  She is the Director of Development Services and the Development Officer with the Town of Rothesay and has had this position since 2005.  Gay enjoys sailing, fishing and skiing.
 


Kim Isnor, Councilor

Kim has lived in Rothesay for 17 years.  She is married with 3 boys and has been employed with BMO Financial Group for 27 years.  She has been a Financial Planner for the past 8 years and enjoys working with her clients to help them attain all their goals.  Kim is Past President of the KV Chamber of Commerce and has been on the Board of Directors in some capacity for over 10 years.

 Tobbi Lynn Debly, Executive Director

Tobbi was born and raised in Saint John but moved to the Valley after she married.  Tobbi brings to the Chamber over 25 years experience in Administration.  In her spare time she creates custom ceramic mosaics under her “T.L. DeZigns” label.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Saint John Rotary Boys Choir and is the Chair of their Fundraising Committee.  Tobbi enjoys sports, cooking, and the outdoors with her family.


 Mandates & Members of KVCC Committees


Finance & Membership Committee

The composition is determined by the Board, and is chaired by the President of the Chamber.  The committee is responsible for supervising the financial affairs of the Chamber and shall recommend annual operating budgets and budget changes for approval by the Board.  This committee will also be responsible for the recruitment of New Business in the Chamber.

Meeting:   Third Friday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

Social & Activities Committee

The Committee is comprised of no less than five (5) members due to the scope of its responsibilities. It is responsible for the planning, implementation and engagement of all Chamber events, whether they be for profit or cost.  This committee will also be responsible for finding ways to increase the value of programs, services, and benefits to the membership.  Activities will include, but not be limited to the following... Monthly Mixers, Spring Dinner event, KVCC Golf Tournament, Fall Luncheon, Small Business Week activities, and Christmas Year End Mixer.

Government & Civic Committee

The mandate of this committee is to ensure the free flow of information all municipalities, the Province of New Brunswick, local community groups, other Chambers of Commerce and the KV Chamber of Commerce.  To ensure the Chamber is apprised of opportunities that will benefit Chamber members.

Meeting:  Third Tuesday of the month at 12:00 noon Chamber office.

Scholarship Committee

Annually the KV Chamber of Commerce awards a grade 12 student from either  Kennebecasis High School or Rothesay High School a scholarship.  It is the mandate of this committee to review all applications submitted and chooses the recipient. 

Nominating Committee

This committee provides a list of nominees for the Chamber's Officers and Council when needed at the Annual General Meeting of the Chamber.
